- Good Governance: It can be argued that corruption is the primary reason poverty exists in many African countries. KHH foundation will explore ways to encourage and bring good governance to the continent of Africa.
- Women issues: Since women are the natural care givers and managers of the family, it is important to address women’s health issues, education and career. KHH foundation will explore avenues to assist women in these areas to ensure that opportunities will be afforded to all women to be able to reach their potential.
- Family and Society: The foundation of every society is the family. Without strong family structures, the society will break down into chaos. The African family has suffered tremendously with values and traditions that are alien to African society, and it is therefore paramount that Africans are educated to understand the strength they possess in the family structure that has been passed on from generation to generation.
- Inter-Religious Dialogue: Diversity is important in every society; it has however often been a source of conflict. The African continent has suffered its fair share of ethnic and religious strife for centuries. It is therefore important to highlight the similarities and encourage discourse between all peoples to foster understanding and peace.
POVERTY AND THE FAMILY IN THE THIRD WORLD
The family remains the basic unit of society in the world today. In its modern meaning, the family is that social unit comprising a man, his wife and their children. In most sub-Saharan African countries, the extended family, which is a more inclusive definition of the family, includes uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents and other distant relations. This paper has deliberately chosen to make the family its center-piece for a number of reasons.
